Firstly I do not think it is any of the guests business as to whether the bride and groom are virgins, that’s a private matter and something to be kept between the couple, I certainly do not think the guests have any right to speculate on that based on the colour of the bridal gown. White has never, ever represented virginity, it’s only the churches and religion that would have you believe that, but in fact blue is the colour for purity, so if you want to display your “pureness” for all to see then white is not the colour to go for. I really honestly believe that a bride should wear what she wants to wear on her wedding day, whether that be black, white, green, purple, orange or whatever she wants, and I think the guests should realise that times have changed and we are no longer bound by stuffy old traditions.

White wedding gowns actually do not symbolize virginity, contrary to popular belief. That is myth. You can search the web for more info on this if you wish. White is supposed to symbolize wealth and joy.

In Asian cultures, brides wear RED (and I bet more Asians are virgins at marriage than Westerners).

You can wear whatever color you want. Prior to the white wedding gown trend, brides wore their best dress, of any color.

My dress was light pink (with white lace). I was also a virgin when I married.

My bridesmaid’s wore black…I think it’s a classic color and looks great in photos.

Black used to be shunned at weddings because in Western cultures it is typically associated with funerals.

However, I have seen black bridal gowns and they can look stunning.

You should do whatever you want, but make sure that a black bridal gown is really what you want. Once your wedding is over it’s too late. Remember that you will not be a depressed 22 year old goth in 20 years…will you still want that black dress in your wedding photos?

If you still feel like this is the way you want it, by all means do it! If a black dress is who you are, don’t let anyone else stop you.

The white dress actually started in the victorian era simply to show off one’s wealth when getting married by buying a horribly impractical (white because it stained easily) dress which would be worn only once. Before this became the fashion it was traditional that brides simply wore their finest clothes and jewelry.

Honestly I think black is a fine color (since I also tend to go to the goth side). Black, in pagan religions, tends to mean protection or you could think of it as the never ending possibilities of space. There’s nothing wrong with black as a wedding dress at all.

It’s your wedding. Wear what you want and know you will be happy with it.

I imagine it is intended to be a civil ceremony – most vicars are going to be a bit uncomfortable about a ceremony featuring the Bride of Dracula.

If you know anything about fashion, then you know about colour coding, and how relatively strong some sartorial conventions are. Black may be considered a slimming colour, and Goths like it, but it is very strongly associated with mourning and funerals.

Virgin weddings are themed White. You are sending the sartorial message that you are in mourning.

As you will doubtless be aware, Gothic isn’t about dressing in black, it’s an affectation towards the style of the 1890s. Have you considered a very very old fashioned consciously archaic, flouncy, over the top wedding dress with bustle, lace, train, etc?

Maybe white, but accessorising in black or dark purple? That could be quite eye catching, especially if the gentlemen all dress in frock coats and cravats. Black dyed hair, white face makeup, a black veil, nail polish, lipstick, bouquet, Paratrooper boots, stockings might do it for the groom (or other bride – I don’t wish to presume).

There is a suggestion that the wedding day is for the bride’s mother, and the ceremony is/could be your one nodding acknowledgement towards convention before painting the town red at the reception.

You can only get married for the first time as a virgin once (people have a hardtime believing it a second time), and you will have the photos forever. Explaining to the Grandchildren that grandma was a Goth, which was a fashion around the 2000s may be something you regret or find hard to explain.

Nothing wrong with black. Have you checked out or for ideas? Wear whatever looks great on you and that makes you happy and don’t settle for what other people tell you that you must do because it’s traditional.

What I don’t get is the double standard that guests and bridesmaids are allowed to wear black to a wedding, even the men are allowed to wear it since that is a standard color for them, and black is even considered festive for any formal occasion and a must have color for every woman’s wardrobe, but yet that same “festive” color is the ultimate taboo for a bride. That logic makes no sense whatsoever.

White dresses for a bride (virgin or not) are fairly recent in the grand scheme of history. No one wore white to get married in before Queen Victoria introduced the color in the 1800s, and even then it was a symbol of wealth and had nothing whatsoever to do with virginity or purity.

It would be your wedding and your allowed to do what you want. Your sexual status is nobody’s business but yours and your future husbands. So the fact that your a virgin means nothing.

If you want to wear black…wear black.
If you want to wear white…wear white.
If you want to wear florescent orange with purple polka dots…wear that.

I think it depends on your height, the colour of your skin, your feeling and some other things. If you are tall, slender, white, Ok, black is really good for you.
