Before digital cameras, how many photos did hired photographers take at weddings?

YA Novels asked:

I recently saw a DVD with over 2000 weddings photos, and there will be more since 3 photographers were hired. I think digital storage has made photography at events excessive.

I think for my first marriage, my “proof book” had about 200 photos. 2000 is insane. I’d never be able to choose, nor would I have the strength or inclination to look at that many photos. Sheesh!

when my parents got married they hired one photographer and he took about 70 to 80 pictures. it was before digital cameras so they got a preview book with 4×6s of each picture and from there they could order more and different sizes of the ones they liked.

Ours has about 300 I think. Who really needs or wants 2,000? Overkill I think. My sister’s digital album was so boring to look through. There were pages of pictures just of her shoes sitting on the floor, the place cards and random objects.

Film made editing a little more important.

Some photographers overwhelm clients. It’s not a very wise practice. Sharing more than 800 images is just way too much.

I average about 300-600 pictures shared with my clients. I make more than 1,500 per wedding on a regular basis. I don’t want to overwhelm my clients and put subpar work out there so I edit pretty tight.
